Larry French was an American left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1929 to 1934, the Chicago Cubs from 1935 to 1941, and the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1941 to 1942. A durable starter, he pitched more than 260 innings each year from 1930 to 1934 with Pittsburgh. After being traded to the Cubs along with Freddie Lindstrom, he led the National League in shutouts in both 1935 and 1936 with four apiece, and won at least ten games every season from 1930 to 1940. Over fourteen seasons he compiled a record of 197 wins and 171 losses with a 3.44 earned run average, 383 starts, 199 complete games, and 40 shutouts. He was selected to the All-Star Game once, in 1940. French joined the United States Navy after the 1942 season and made it a career, serving in World War II and the Korean War before retiring in 1969 with the rank of captain.
