Dossier

Raymond Lee Walls Jr. (1933–1993) was a right-handed outfielder who played in Major League Baseball from 1952 to 1964, suiting up for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Diego native stood 6-foot-3 and attended Pasadena City College, where he earned All-Southern California honors in baseball two consecutive years. He closed his professional career with a season in Japan for the Hankyu Braves in 1965. Walls wore eyeglasses during games — uncommon for players of his era — earning him the nickname "Captain Midnight."
