Leonard Everett Lyles (1936–2011) played cornerback in the National Football League for 12 seasons, spending the bulk of his career with the Baltimore Colts after they selected him in the first round of the 1958 NFL Draft. Lyles played college football at the University of Louisville, where he broke the program's color barrier. He started in Super Bowl III for the Colts and became the first player in NFL history to return two kickoffs for more than 100 yards in a single season, a mark of his exceptional speed and return ability at the professional level.
