Dossier

Luzerne Atwell "Lu" Blue (1897–1958) was a switch-hitting first baseman who played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball between 1921 and 1933. A Washington, D.C. native, he spent the bulk of his career with the Detroit Tigers before stints with the St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox, and a single game with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Blue compiled a career on-base percentage of .402 and was regarded as one of the better defensive first basemen of his era. He interrupted his playing career to serve in World War I and was later buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
