Mark Christman

Dossier
Mark Christman was an American Major League Baseball infielder who played third base and shortstop from 1938 to 1949. He appeared for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, and Washington Senators across nine seasons. In 911 games he batted .253 with 781 hits, 19 home runs, and 348 RBI. Christman was the regular third baseman on the 1944 St. Louis Browns, the only St. Louis-based club to win an American League pennant, and he appeared in the 1944 World Series, which the Browns lost to the Cardinals; he batted .091 in the Series. His career coincided with World War II, when many players entered military service. Christman remained exempt from the draft, allowing him to play through the talent-depleted wartime seasons during which the Browns made their lone pennant run.
