Ewell Doak Walker II (1927–1998) was a halfback and kicker who played college football for the SMU Mustangs, earning the Maxwell Award in 1947 and the Heisman Trophy in 1948. He joined the Detroit Lions of the NFL in 1950 and played through 1955. Walker was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986. Since 1990, the Doak Walker Award has been presented annually to the top running back in college football. He grew up in Dallas, Texas, and attended Highland Park High School.
