Ned Garver

Dossier

Ned Garver (December 25, 1925 – February 26, 2017) was a right-handed pitcher who spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball with the St. Louis Browns, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Athletics, and Los Angeles Angels. A native of Ney, Ohio, Garver signed with the Browns in 1944 and reached the majors in 1948. In 1951, he posted a 20–12 record for a Browns club that finished 52–102, making him and Irv Young the only pitchers in the modern era to win 20 or more games for a team that lost 100. Casey Stengel selected him to start the All-Star Game that year.
