Pat Curran

Dossier
Pat Curran (born September 21, 1945) played tight end in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers from 1969 to 1978. A 1968 graduate of Lakeland College near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, he was a two-time NAIA All-American as a running back and holds Lakeland school records in career scoring, single-season scoring, and single-game scoring. During the 1969 season, broadcaster Pat Summerall dubbed Curran "the meanest man in the NFL" on the syndicated series *This Week in Pro Football*, citing his practice of spearing opponents helmet-first — a technique later outlawed by the league. After retiring, he served as a color analyst on Chargers radio broadcasts from 1978 to 1994.
