James Patrick Holmes (1940–2026) was a defensive lineman who played college football at Texas Tech before embarking on a professional career spanning three leagues. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1962 NFL draft, Holmes instead began his pro career with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, where he played from 1962 to 1965. He joined the Houston Oilers of the AFL in 1966, earning AFL All-Star honors in both 1967 and 1968. Holmes remained with the Oilers through the AFL–NFL merger and into 1972, then finished his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1973.
