Paul Martha (1942–2023) played safety in the National Football League for seven seasons. A Pittsburgh native, he attended Shady Side Academy before playing college football and basketball at the University of Pittsburgh, where he moved from quarterback to running back and earned consensus All-American honors. He helped lead Pitt to a 9–1 record as a senior in 1963, appearing in the East-West Shrine Game, Hula Bowl, and College All-Star Game that postseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him 10th overall in the first round of the 1964 NFL Draft. After his playing career, Martha entered the practice of law.
