Pete Athas

Peter Garrett Athas (September 15, 1946 – June 28, 2015) was a professional football cornerback who attended Miami Edison High School and walked on at the University of Tennessee without lettering. Before reaching the NFL, Athas played for the Orlando Panthers of the Continental Football League, where he led the league in interceptions in both 1968 (10, a league record) and 1969 (9, including one returned for a touchdown), earning All-Star honors and recording 27 interceptions across 34 games. He went on to play six NFL seasons with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints.
