Dossier
Philip Joseph Gagliano (December 27, 1941 – December 19, 2016) was a right-handed utility infielder, outfielder, and pinch hitter from Memphis, Tennessee who appeared in 702 games across 12 Major League Baseball seasons between 1963 and 1974, principally with the St. Louis Cardinals. A graduate of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis — where he played under his uncle, coach Tony Gagliano, and was a teammate of Tim McCarver — Gagliano and McCarver became two of four Christian Brothers alumni to play in the World Series as Cardinals. His younger brother Ralph also reached the majors briefly, appearing in one game in 1965.
