Prince of Wales Trophy

Dossier

The Prince of Wales Trophy is an NHL team award named for Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor. First presented on December 15, 1925, to the winner of the inaugural game at Madison Square Garden, it was retroactively awarded to the NHL playoff champions of the two preceding seasons as well. Over its history the trophy has recognized the American Division champion, the NHL regular season champion, and various conference-level titlists. Since the 1967 NHL expansion it has served as the Eastern counterpart to the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, awarded to the Eastern Conference playoff champion.
