Ray Purdin, known as Dutch Purdin, was a running back who played college football at Northwestern University before embarking on a professional career in Canadian football. Born in Hillsboro, Ohio, he was voted most valuable player in the 1960 Blue–Gray Football Classic after scoring three touchdowns. Drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round of the 1961 AFL Draft, he instead joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL, where he played three seasons. His standout year came in 1962, when he rushed for 809 yards at 6.1 per carry, caught 34 passes for 771 yards, and earned Western Conference and CFL All-Star honors. He holds the second-longest run from scrimmage in Roughrider history, a 93-yard gain against Montreal on September 12, 1962.
