Raimund "Ray" Wersching, born August 21, 1950, in Austria, was a placekicker who spent 15 seasons in the NFL from 1973 through 1987. He played college football at Cerritos College and the University of California, Berkeley before going undrafted and signing with the San Diego Chargers. In 1977 he joined the San Francisco 49ers, with whom he won two Super Bowl rings. In Super Bowl XVI he tied a Super Bowl record with four field goals. When he retired he held 49ers franchise records for points, field goals, and extra points, and was the 12th player in NFL history to reach 1,000 career points.
