Ronald Mark Blomberg, nicknamed "Boomer," was a designated hitter, first baseman, and right fielder who played eight seasons in Major League Baseball. Born August 23, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, Blomberg is best known as the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history. He spent the majority of his career with the New York Yankees (1969, 1971–1976) before finishing with the Chicago White Sox in 1978. Over 461 games he batted .293 with 52 home runs and 224 RBIs, posting a .360 on-base percentage. He later managed the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox in the Israel Baseball League in 2007.
