Dossier

Ronald Lavern Hansen (born April 5, 1938, Oxford, Nebraska) was a right-handed shortstop who played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1956 after declining a scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley, and debuted with the club in 1958. Hansen went on to play for the Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, and Kansas City Royals, appearing in 1,384 games with a .234 batting average, 106 home runs, and 501 RBI. Standing 6-foot-3, he was considered a fluid defender at shortstop. Chronic back problems and injuries hampered and ultimately shortened his career.
