Royce Berry
Dossier
Royce Elmer Berry (born April 19, 1946) was a defensive end who grew up in Odessa, Texas, and played high school football at Permian before attending the University of Houston, where he played in 1965, 1966, and 1968, missing the 1967 season to injury. The Cincinnati Bengals drafted him in the seventh round (161st overall) of the 1969 AFL/NFL Common Draft. He played one AFL season before transitioning to the NFL in 1970, where he started all 14 games at left defensive end. In the first-ever Bengals–Browns meeting that year, Berry recovered a fumble and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown. He anchored Cincinnati's defensive line alongside Mike Reid, Steve Chomyszak, and Ron Carpenter through 1973.
