Rubén Gómez (July 13, 1927 – July 26, 2004) was a Puerto Rican right-handed starting pitcher who debuted with the New York Giants on April 17, 1953, finishing his rookie season 13–11. In his second season he went 17–9, then won Game 3 of the 1954 World Series as the Giants swept the Cleveland Indians — making him the first Puerto Rican to pitch in a World Series game and the first black Latino to win one. He was also the winning pitcher in the first Major League Baseball game played west of Kansas City. In Puerto Rico he was nicknamed El Divino Loco, the Divine Madman.
