Sam Bowie

Samuel Paul Bowie, born March 17, 1961, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, was a 7-foot-1 center who entered the 1984 NBA Draft as a highly regarded prospect after a standout collegiate career and a stint on the U.S. Olympic team. The Portland Trail Blazers selected him second overall — ahead of Michael Jordan. Despite his imposing frame and early promise, Bowie's professional career was repeatedly interrupted by injuries to his legs and feet, limiting what many had anticipated would be a dominant run. He nonetheless played ten seasons in the NBA.
