Shano Collins

Dossier
John Francis "Shano" Collins (December 4, 1885 – September 10, 1955) was a right fielder and first baseman who played in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. Born in Boston's Charlestown neighborhood and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, his nickname derived from a clubhouse corruption of Sean, the Gaelic form of John. Collins originally pitched in semipro ball before an arm injury redirected him to the infield. After batting .322 with eight home runs for Springfield in the Connecticut State League in 1909, the White Sox purchased his contract and he debuted in the majors on April 21, 1910.
