Ted Wade Abernathy (March 6, 1933 – December 16, 2004) was a right-handed relief pitcher who appeared in 681 major league games across 14 seasons between 1955 and 1972. Born in Stanley, North Carolina, he pitched for seven clubs including the Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Royals. Abernathy accumulated 148 career saves and twice led the National League in that category, in 1965 and 1967. He finished with a 63–69 record, a 3.46 ERA, and 765 strikeouts over 1,147⅔ innings pitched.
