Ted Gerela

Ted Gerela was a placekicker who played in the American Football League and National Football League from 1969 to 1979. A graduate of Kalani High School in Honolulu, he played college football at New Mexico State before being selected by the Houston Oilers in the fourth round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft. After two seasons in Houston, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1971, earning Pro Bowl selections in 1972 and 1974 and leading the AFC in scoring in both 1973 and 1974. Gerela was part of three Steelers Super Bowl championship teams (1974, 1975, 1978) and finished his career with three games for the San Diego Chargers in 1979.
