Ted Gray was a left-handed pitcher who played in the major leagues from 1946 to 1955. Born in Detroit in 1924, he spent the bulk of his career with the hometown Detroit Tigers and finished his final 1955 season pitching for the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles. Over his career he compiled a record of 59 wins and 74 losses with a 4.37 earned run average and 687 strikeouts. He was selected to the All-Star Game in 1950. He won 10 games in both 1949 and 1950 and posted a career-best 3.51 earned run average in 1949. Known as a power pitcher who threw a forkball, he was reported to have been hampered by chronic blisters during his major league career. He died in 2011.
