Tim Foli

Dossier

Timothy John Foli (born December 6, 1950) played shortstop in Major League Baseball from 1970 to 1985, suiting up for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, California Angels, and New York Yankees. Selected first overall in the 1968 MLB draft at just 17 years old, Foli was a reliable fielder and one of the hardest batters to strike out in the league, posting the best strikeout percentage in his league three times. He was a member of the 1979 World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. A free swinger with little power, he averaged fewer than two home runs per season and typically batted second or near the bottom of the lineup.
