Dossier

Thomas James Griffin (born February 22, 1948) was a right-handed pitcher who spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1982 with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, California Angels, San Francisco Giants, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Selected fourth overall by Houston in the January 1966 draft out of Grant High School in Los Angeles, Griffin broke into the majors on April 10, 1969. That rookie season he went 11–10 with a 3.54 ERA, striking out 200 batters in 188.1 innings — making the Astros only the second team in history to field three pitchers with 200 or more strikeouts in the same year, alongside Larry Dierker and Don Wilson.
