Tom Tresh

Dossier

Thomas Michael Tresh (September 20, 1938 – October 15, 2008) was a switch-hitting infielder and outfielder who played in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees (1961–1969) and Detroit Tigers (1969). A graduate of Allen Park High School and Central Michigan University, Tresh was the son of MLB catcher Mike Tresh. He opened the 1962 season at shortstop for New York, filling in for Tony Kubek during military service — a distinction no Yankee rookie shortstop would repeat until Derek Jeter in 1996. That year Tresh won both the MLB and Sporting News Rookie of the Year awards, batting .286 with 20 home runs and 93 RBI.
