Tony Conigliaro

Dossier

Tony Conigliaro was a right-handed outfielder who played for the Boston Red Sox from 1964 to 1967 and again from 1969 to 1970, with a final brief stint in 1975, and for the California Angels in 1971. Born in Revere, Massachusetts, he graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn in 1962. He hit a home run in his first at-bat during his home field debut in 1964 and reached 100 career home runs faster than any player in American League history. A beaning in 1967 caused a severe eye injury that cost him the 1968 season. He returned in 1969 and hit 36 home runs with 116 RBI in 1970 before being traded to California.
