Urban Shocker was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees and St. Louis Browns between 1916 and 1928. Born Urbain Jacques Shockcor on September 22, 1890, in Cleveland, Ohio, Shocker was one of the last legal spitball pitchers in the major leagues. He led the American League in wins in 1921 with 27, setting a Browns franchise record, and won 20 or more games in four consecutive seasons from 1920 to 1923. At his retirement, he held Browns franchise records in wins (126) and shutouts (23). He died September 9, 1928.
