Dossier

Victor Sylvester Saier (May 4, 1891 – May 14, 1967) was an American first baseman who played Major League Baseball from 1911 to 1919 with the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. Born in Lansing, Michigan, he entered professional ball in 1910 with the Lansing Senators, leading the Southern Michigan League in hits, doubles, and total bases before being purchased by the Cubs for $1,500. He took over at first base after Frank Chance was injured during his rookie season and hit .288 in his first full year as starter. In 1913, Saier set career highs across most offensive categories and led the National League with 21 triples.
