Walter "Moose" Dropo was an American first baseman who spent 13 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1949 to 1961. Born January 30, 1923, in Moosup, Connecticut, to Serbian immigrant parents, Dropo attended the University of Connecticut, where he competed in football, basketball, and baseball before his college career was interrupted by three years of Army service in World War II, including combat in Europe. He played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Redlegs, and Baltimore Orioles across his career, retiring after the 1961 season. He died December 17, 2010.
