Marcus Wayne Garland (born October 26, 1950, in Nashville, Tennessee) was a right-handed pitcher who spent nine major league seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (1973–1976) and Cleveland Indians (1977–1981). A two-sport athlete at Cohn High School in Nashville, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1968 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 1969 before signing with Baltimore after the 1969 secondary draft. Following the 1976 season, Garland became one of the first 24 players to benefit from MLB free agency and made history as the first player in the sport to sign a 10-year contract.
