John Wesley Covington (March 27, 1932 – July 4, 2011) was a left fielder from Laurinburg, North Carolina who played in Major League Baseball from 1956 through 1966. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound left-handed hitter appeared for six clubs: the Milwaukee Braves, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers. A football standout at Hillside High School in Durham, Covington did not take up baseball until 1950.
