Dossier

Arley Wilbur Cooper (February 24, 1892 – August 7, 1973) was a left-handed starting pitcher who spent most of his Major League Baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Born in Bearsville, West Virginia, he turned professional in 1911 with the Marion Diggers. Cooper won 20 or more games four times in the early 1920s and became the first National League left-hander to reach 200 career victories, finishing with 216. His career ERA of 2.89 remains the lowest for any NL left-hander with at least 3,000 innings pitched. He still holds Pittsburgh franchise records for career wins (202) and complete games (263).
