Zaid Abdul-Aziz, born Donald A. Smith on April 7, 1946, played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones from 1965 to 1968, earning Big Eight Player of the Year honors in 1968 and three first-team All-Big Eight Conference selections. The Cincinnati Royals selected him fifth overall in the 1968 NBA draft, and he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks during his rookie season. Over ten NBA seasons he also suited up for the Seattle SuperSonics, Houston Rockets, Buffalo Braves, and Boston Celtics. Nicknamed "The Kangaroo," he adopted his current name upon converting to Islam in 1976.
