Admiral Schlei

George Henry "Admiral" Schlei (January 12, 1878 – January 24, 1958) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. His professional career ran from 1904 through 1911, placing him squarely in the deadball era, and he is most closely identified with the Cincinnati Reds of the NL. After his major-league days ended in 1911, he continued in professional ball through 1915. He was listed at 179 pounds. He batted and threw right-handed. For collectors, his most recognized appearance is in the 1909 T204 Ramly cigarette set. He also turns up across the broader tobacco- and caramel-card output of the period, with documented appearances on T204 Ramly, E92 Croft's Candy, E92 Croft's Cocoa, E92 Dockman & Sons Gum, and E92 Nadja Caramels, among others. He died on January 24, 1958 in Huntington, West Virginia and was interred at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington, West Virginia.
