Dossier

Alexandre Daigle (born February 7, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. As a youth, he played in the 1988 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor team from Laval, Quebec.

Leading up to the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Daigle was a highly touted junior prospect, considered a "can't miss" player and an NHL superstar-in-waiting. He was viewed as a major draw for the expansion Ottawa Senators, who were even accused of deliberately losing games late in the 1992–93 season, their first in the NHL, to guarantee the first overall selection and the right to draft him — an accusation that prompted an investigation. The Senators selected him first overall in the 1993 draft.

Daigle recorded a modest career high of 51 points in three separate NHL regular seasons. He briefly retired from hockey at age 25 but returned to the NHL two years later. Over his career he played ten seasons in the NHL and four in the Swiss NL. Despite the high expectations placed on him as the first overall pick, he failed to live up to them and is regarded by many to have been a draft bust.
