Alf Pike

Alfred George Pike (September 15, 1917 – March 1, 2009) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who spent six NHL seasons with the New York Rangers between 1939 and 1947. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he developed through Lester Patrick's hockey school there before playing junior hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs, where he centered the top forward line on the 1936–37 Memorial Cup championship team. A licensed mortician in the offseason, Pike earned the nickname "The Embalmer." During World War II he served as a Leading Aircraftsman with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He later coached at various levels of the sport.
