Altie Taylor

Altie Taylor was a professional football running back who played eight seasons in the National Football League. Born in Berkeley, California, in 1947, he grew up in Pittsburg, California, and attended Utah State University after starting at Diablo Valley College, where he rushed for 975 yards in 1968 and led the nation with a 31.9-yard kickoff return average in 1967. Selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft, he spent seven seasons in Detroit, leading the team in rushing for three consecutive years from 1972 to 1974 and setting the Lions' career rushing record with 4,297 yards in 1975. He appeared in 91 games, starting 83. Taylor died March 14, 2010.
