Andy Bathgate

Dossier
Andrew James Bathgate (August 28, 1932 – February 26, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey right wing who played 17 seasons in the National Hockey League between 1952 and 1971. As a youth he was offered scholarships to join the hockey teams at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado, but turned them down and instead joined the Guelph Biltmores of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1949.
Bathgate began his professional career with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League in the 1952–53 season. He bounced between the Vancouver Canucks of the Western Hockey League and the New York Rangers for two seasons before settling with the Rangers in 1954–55. He went on to play 10 full seasons with the Rangers, where he became a popular star player in New York. Over his NHL career he also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Bathgate held the distinction of being named the Most Valuable Player of both the NHL and the Western Hockey League. In 2017 he was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history.
