Art Ross

Art Ross was a professional hockey player, general manager, and head coach who served the Boston Bruins in a front-office capacity. A Hockey Hall of Fame inductee as a player, Ross contributed to the game beyond the ice: he designed the official NHL puck, featuring slightly bevelled edges for better puck control. He is also remembered for presenting the Art Ross Trophy to the NHL in 1947, an award given annually to the player who leads the league in points at the end of the regular season — a lasting institutional legacy tied to his name.
