Dossier

Arthur T. "Hambone" Williams was an American professional basketball player, born September 29, 1939, and died September 27, 2018. He played two seasons at San Diego City College from 1959 to 1961 and one season for the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in 1962–63. Williams spent seven seasons in the National Basketball Association from 1967 to 1974, playing for the San Diego Rockets and the Boston Celtics. He became the second player in NBA history, after Oscar Robertson, to record a triple-double within his first four NBA games. Williams averaged 5.3 points per game over his career and won an NBA Championship with Boston in 1974. He also played briefly with the San Diego Conquistadors of the American Basketball Association during the 1974–75 season. He acquired his nickname in junior high, when someone called out "hambone" and he turned around. Williams suffered a stroke and died on September 27, 2018, at the age of 78.
