Arthur Ross

Arthur Howey Ross (January 13, 1885 – August 5, 1964) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and executive whose career spanned 1905 to 1954. A defenseman regarded by peers as one of the best of his era, he was among the first players to carry the puck up ice rather than pass to a forward. Ross won two Stanley Cup championships — with the Kenora Thistles in January 1907 and the Montreal Wanderers in 1908. He later became the first coach and general manager of the Boston Bruins when the franchise was formed in 1924, a role he held across multiple stints through 1945.
