Benny Woit

Benedict Francis Woit (January 7, 1928 – December 7, 2016) was a Canadian defenseman who played in the National Hockey League from 1951 to 1956. He developed as a junior with the Port Arthur clubs and St. Michael's Majors before joining the Indianapolis Capitals of the American Hockey League in 1948–49. Promoted to the Detroit Red Wings in 1951, Woit's defensive play contributed to three Stanley Cup championships in 1952, 1954, and 1955. He was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 1954. Traded to the Chicago Black Hawks after the 1954–55 season, he never replicated his Detroit form. He finished with 7 goals and 26 assists in 334 NHL games.
