Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion

Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion (February 16, 1931 – March 11, 2006) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who spent his 16-year NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he began his NHL career in 1951 and earned his nickname from sportswriter Charlie Boire for his thundering slapshot, which Geoffrion claimed to have invented. He was the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season, behind teammate Maurice Richard, and was part of six Stanley Cup championships with Montreal. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
