Dossier

Bernard Keith Allen (born April 16, 1939) was a Major League Baseball second baseman who appeared in over 900 games at the position across stints with the Minnesota Twins, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, and Montreal Expos. By 1971 he had begun splitting time between second and third base. Before his professional career, Allen was a two-sport standout at Purdue, earning six varsity letters and twice being named baseball team MVP. As the Boilermakers' starting quarterback in 1960, he guided Purdue to victories over No. 12 Notre Dame, No. 3 Ohio State, and No. 1 Minnesota, earning Sports Illustrated recognition as Offensive Back of the Week for the Ohio State win.
