Bill Dahlen

William Frederick "Bad Bill" Dahlen (January 5, 1870 – December 5, 1950) was born in Nelliston, New York. He put together 21 seasons in the majors, his service running from 1891 through 1911, and the Brooklyn Robins of the National League stand as the club he is most identified with. His full professional career, counting minor-league campaigns, ran 22 years from 1890 to 1911. He moved into the dugout as a major-league manager from 1910 to 1913. He was listed at 5'9" and 180 pounds, and he hit and threw right-handed. For collectors, his vintage cardboard footprint is anchored by an appearance in the E254 Colgan's Chips set, the survey most often consulted when his image is the target. That single-issue presence narrows the chase but also keeps demand concentrated on a known card. He lived to 80, an unusually long span for a player of his generation. He was roughly 21 years old at the time of his major-league debut. He died in Brooklyn, New York. He was laid to rest at The Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York (Redemption Section - Grave 1875; grave is unmarked).
