Bill Doak

William Leopold Doak (January 28, 1891 – November 26, 1954) was a right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball between 1912 and 1929, spending the bulk of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Doak earned the nickname "Spittin' Bill" for his reliance on the spitball. He led the National League in earned run average in 1914, posting a 1.72 ERA with a 19–6 record, and again topped the NL in ERA in 1921. He won 20 games in the 1920 season. He also played for the Brooklyn Robins before returning briefly to St. Louis.
