Bill Kilmer

William Orland Kilmer Jr., born September 5, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, was an American professional football quarterback who played 18 seasons in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Redskins. Over the course of his career he was also used as a running back, wide receiver, and punter.

Raised in southern California, Kilmer attended Citrus Union High School in Azusa, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He earned All-American honors in basketball, scoring more than 1,900 points; his 1,901 career points set a CIF Southern Section record. He went on to play college football for the UCLA Bruins.

In 1964, while serving as a running back for the 49ers, Kilmer figured in one of the more unusual plays in NFL history when Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall recovered Kilmer's fumble and ran it 66 yards into the wrong end zone.

In January 1973, at the close of the 1972 season, Kilmer was the losing quarterback in Super Bowl VII. The Miami Dolphins defeated his Washington Redskins 14-7 to complete the only perfect season in NFL history.
