William Patrick McPeak (1926–1991) played defensive end at the University of Pittsburgh before the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the 16th round of the 1948 NFL Draft. He spent nine seasons with Pittsburgh from 1949 to 1957, transitioning into an assistant coaching role during his final two years. After joining the Washington Redskins staff in 1959, he was promoted to head coach and general manager in December 1960 at age 34, making him the youngest head coach in the league at the time. He led Washington through the 1965 season and later served as offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins.
